GDSN 374 | Spring 2024
A holiday card designed for President Cruzado at her request in competition with my studio class. This design received 3rd place overall and was illustrated using Procreate.

Concept Designs
In the beginning I explored campus, taking dozens of reference photos and then used them to create basic thumbnail sketches. This was used to further explore and narrow down my options in a short amount of time.

Phase One
This was the next step in narrowing down my options further. These illustrations are more fleshed out than the thumbnail sketches while still keeping that loose, sketchy quality. After this point I narrowed it down to my top 2 designs to continue working on.

Phase Two

Final Design
The illustration style of this card represents a sense of peace and calm in the dead of winter. This was accomplished by using visible brushstrokes and texture to create complex shades of blue to reflect the icy depths of winter. While simultaneously using a complimentary glowing orange to lead the viewer into the composition and invite them into a cozy space safe from the cold. Created by illustrating twinkling lights adorning Romney’s windows and arches to illuminate our beloved campus building in the frigid cold. Additionally, the color palette represents our school’s colors, albeit a more vibrant version. The holiday greeting is a festive script typeface designed by Michael Spitz to build upon the elegance of the design.
